To live in a functioning society implies complying with the majority. If everyone agrees that throwing garbage out of your window is unacceptable, you simply cannot do it—and that supports a clean city. We are now at a point where even private thoughts risk being perceived as noncompliant by groups around you that can turn hostile, even physically violent, in an instant.

In early training, shamans are encouraged to travel—to experience new lands and their inhabitants. As part of this process, they are trained to first observe, understand, and follow the laws of those lands. This behavior is applied in a forest, a town, a family living room—any environment. Each location carries its own energetic pattern. This process is developed through awareness. It resembles heightened perception: attention to detail at a granular level, where each detail communicates information about the unseen forces shaping that environment’s reality.

You do not need initiation to begin shaping your reality. What is required is a decision. Decide, here and now, that awareness is not compliance. Choosing behaviors through awareness is fundamentally different from complying with them. One positions you in control of your reality; the other reduces your agency. Even in extreme constraint—where rules are imposed and demeaning—acting from awareness changes the internal structure of the experience. You are choosing your behavior as a strategic response to influence external conditions in a direction you prefer.

Another concept within shamanism is how success is defined. In modern society, success is often measured by achievements and external indicators of happiness. In shamanic understanding, success is directional rather than positional. The question is: where is this person heading? If the trajectory moves toward greater harmony, then regardless of past actions or current circumstances, that individual is, in that pacha (point in time and space), successful.

Compliance is passive. Awareness requires active concentration and decision-making. Assess your current situation. Define what you want. Understand the constraints of your environment, and navigate them deliberately. Anticipate consequences and avoid unnecessary ones. Stay aligned with your objectives through repeated, conscious decisions. When mistakes occur, register them and continue. If internal criticism emerges, recognize it, then return awareness to your intended direction. Sustained awareness activates self-illumination and reinforces a consistent path toward success.
